The brief
A kitchen for cooking and gathering, with millwork that carries through the house.
The design
Painted shaker and white oak around a veined stone island and a plaster hood.
The kitchen, in motion
A slow camera move made from our photo of the finished kitchen. It plays silently when it scrolls into view.
Two finishes, carried through
Two finishes do most of the work here. The perimeter cabinetry is painted white shaker; the island, the tall pantry wall and the paneled refrigerator are white oak.
The island is topped in heavily veined natural stone with seating along one side, and the same stone runs up the range wall as a full-height backsplash. A plaster hood with an oak shelf band sits over a professional range, and the farmhouse sink faces into the room.
Arched openings lead to a bar niche with glass-front oak uppers and a patterned blue backdrop, and to a hall with a beverage refrigerator built into the oak cabinetry. In the living room, oak built-ins frame a plaster fireplace and the media wall.
